San Diego buddies will compete in 'Amazing Race'

August 20, 2008

Geeky best friends from San Diego, Mark Yturralde, 41, and Bill Hahler, 42, will join 10 other teams to compete in the 13th edition of CBS' “The Amazing Race.”

The Comic-Con treasurer and student aid administrator from San Diego have been pals for more than 20 years and have auditioned for “The Amazing Race” since the reality show's third season. The superhero and gaming aficionados said they left their toys at home during the race.

“We did extensive research on what to wear – what was lightweight and would help us move the fastest,” Yturralde added. “I think it was the longest I ever went without wearing a logo on my T-shirt.'”

They join an ex-NFL player and his estranged wife, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and her actor brother, recent divorcees, a pair of Southern belles and fraternity brothers in competing for a $1 million grand prize. The show premieres Sept. 28, and follows the teams as they travel more than 30,000 miles in 23 days.

CUSTODY BATTLE WAS COSTLY

Britney Spears' recently resolved custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline wasn't just messy, it was expensive.

Court documents show that legal bills submitted on behalf of two law firms who represented Spears total more than $466,000. That's on top of the $250,000 the 26-year-old pop singer has agreed to pay Federline's attorneys.

In the custody agreement, Federline retains full custody of their two sons, but Spears gets some overnight visits.
