Graduates face the first rung of the career ladder: getting a job

Trevor Szczygiel is at a crossroads. Szczygiel, 22, graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in political science in May. But nearly three months later, he finds himself without a job. His job hunt, like that of many recent college grads, has been a difficult one.

    Gold medalist faces future with Olympic determination

    Anyone trying to walk a mile in Deena Deardurff Schmidt's shoes might have kicked the things off halfway through the trek. For Deena, life's road has been jagged and her soles have had holes. Oh surely, she was the toast of her hometown Cincinnati and the nation when, at 15, she won an Olympic gold medal and a fourth-place finisher's certificate in swimming.

      From ledgers to love letters, they’ve held life’s stories

      One of these belonged to my parents. It was my grandfather's, I guess. Then it came to me. We were at an antique show and I saw another one. I thought it would be fun to get a second one. Well, once you get two, then you pretty soon begin looking around for more. I've been collecting them for 20 or 25 years. I don't know if they even make inkwells any more.
